Massages from Around the World: The Wellness Techniques Our Clients Love
While the classic relaxation massage remains a staple of our treatment rooms, more and more clients now come to the salon with a specific request: to discover techniques from elsewhere. Shiatsu, Ayurvedic massage, Californian massage… these approaches, long reserved for high-end spas, are becoming more widespread and gradually finding their way onto salon treatment menus.
Shiatsu, of Japanese origin, relies on targeted pressure along the body’s energy lines rather than the usual gliding hand movements. It’s a demanding technique that requires a solid knowledge of anatomy, covered in our wellness massage module alongside other techniques from around the world. Ayurvedic massage, meanwhile, combines enveloping manipulations with warm oils for an effect that is both relaxing and nourishing for the skin.
Californian massage, closer to Western expectations, appeals with its long, flowing movements that provide an almost immediate feeling of letting go — a safe bet for clients seeking pure relaxation, without any particular therapeutic aim. Each of these techniques requires specific training in touch, rhythm and pressure, well beyond classic relaxation massage.
Training our students in this range of techniques allows them, once qualified, to offer a richer treatment menu and meet the needs of an increasingly varied clientele.
